Local first systems ยท Columbus, Ohio

Own the systems worth owning.

For carefully selected workloads, self-hosting email, files, or communication can beat renting them. We help you pick the ones where it genuinely does, and build them properly.

The business case

Rent enough of your core systems and the monthly software bill starts to look like a second lease. The bigger issue is control: pricing, features, and terms all move on someone else's schedule, not yours.

Self-hosting the right workloads gives you ownership back: predictable costs, no licensing surprises, and systems that belong to you. The key phrase is "the right workloads." This isn't an all-or-nothing philosophy, and we won't propose it as one. Plenty of businesses do best with one or two systems self-hosted and the rest on Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace.

You don't need to be a big company for this to make sense.

What we can build

Email & calendar

Private email hosted on your own server. Your messages stay yours, at a lower long-term cost than the big platforms.

'Private cloud'

Self-hosted file sync, shared folders, document editing, calendar, and contacts. Replaces Google Drive or OneDrive without the subscription.

Communication

Private team messaging. Open standard, no vendor lock-in, fully under your control.

Authentication

Your own single sign-on system. Staff log in once for everything, without depending on Microsoft or Google for identity.

An honest note

Self-hosting is real infrastructure, and it has real obligations. A self-hosted system needs tested backups, a patching schedule someone actually keeps, and a documented exit path so you're never trapped in your own server. We build all three into every project and handle them under ongoing care, but you should understand going in that this is what you're taking on. The payoff is ownership, privacy, and predictable long-term costs. We won't oversell it.

If Microsoft 365 is the right fit for your business right now, we'll help you use it well. See our Cloud & Productivity page. When you're ready to reduce dependency over time, we know how to make that transition work.

Pricing

Setup cost depends on the scope, so every build gets a direct quote rather than a price list:

  • Self-hosted email and file storage for a small team, quoted as a fixed setup project
  • The full stack of email, files, team communication, and single sign-on, quoted as one project
  • Ongoing care, monitoring, and updates on a monthly arrangement
  • Server or NAS hardware sourced and included in the setup quote

We'll discuss what's practical for your team size and budget before quoting. There's no minimum commitment on ongoing care.
