Managed backup

Workstations and servers backed up to a system we run, copied off site, and restore-tested every week. A monthly fee, quoted in writing before anything is installed.

How we know it works

  • The off-site copy cannot be deleted by accident. The office can add new backups to it but cannot remove or change the old ones, so a mistake or an infection on your network does not reach it.
  • Every week the system reads a sample of the data back and restores a set of files on its own. If either fails, it emails us.
  • Staff open yesterday's version of a file themselves, with a right-click in Windows. No ticket, no waiting.
  • A failed or missed backup run sends an alert the same day, and a person reads it.
  • The restore has been used for real. In July 2026 a client deleted a project folder. It was restored within the hour.

Scope

  • File-level server and workstation backup, with snapshots your staff restore themselves
  • A local copy for fast restores, and an off-site copy so a fire, flood or theft does not take the backup with the office
  • Encrypted before it leaves the building
  • Retention agreed with you in writing, not left at a default

Not included: image-level backup of whole machines, and mailboxes held at a hosted provider such as Microsoft 365. The file server this is built around, with its snapshots and local backup box, is on the office server and files page.

How it works

We start by looking at what is backing up now and where the copies go. Half an hour remotely is usually enough to say what would restore and what would not. The agreement then sets out which machines, what retention and who gets the alerts.

Backups run to a server we host, encrypted, with a separate store for each site. On the file server, snapshots run through the day and show up in Windows as Previous Versions, so a wrong save or a deleted file is a right-click for the person who did it.

Restores that need us, such as a folder from last month or a whole machine's files, come through hourly business support or your managed IT agreement.

Pricing

Managed backup is a monthly fee, quoted in writing once we know the device count, data volume and how far back you need to keep. Setup, and any move from an existing backup system, is quoted as a fixed project before it starts. If you are on managed IT, backup can be written into the same agreement. Rates for one-off work are on the pricing page.
